B J Waller Involved In Prestigious Cambridge College Refurbishment

Westminster College in Cambridge has been undergoing a yearlong £7 million refurbishment to update its ageing, but prestigious, building. B J Waller is pleased to have supplied a full and comprehensive ironmongery package for its updated rooms.

As a centre for learning within the United Reformed Church, Westminster College provides theological training of students and is available for those involved in the life of the church. With on site library, chapel, dining area and accommodation, the College decided it was time for a refurbishment of the historic building, and B J Waller were proud to be chosen as a supplier of their new ironmongery.

Working closely with architects Bland Brown + Cole from Cambridge, B J Waller were able to specify, schedule and supply products in both polished brass and satin stainless steel to incorporate within different areas in the College.

Suppling a Kaba Pextra Master Key System throughout the building to work in conjunction with access control; the safety of staff, students and visitors was of the utmost importance during the renovation.

Also providing Royde and Tucker H102 Hinges, Dorma TS92 & TS93 Slide Channel Cam Action Door Closers, Pocket Door Gear, Powermatic door closers and Automatic Door Operators, the hardware supplied needed to be fitting for such a prestigious building.

Sales Director of BJ Waller, Luke Piper, said: “We felt very honoured to work on another significant building in Cambridge. The College has been in Cambridge since 1899, so it's nice to get to work on something with so much history.

"There was 76 hardware sets for this project and no door was the same, so there was a huge mix of ironmongery to consider. During the project there were many changes, as can often happen on a scale of this size. We ended up with 11 revisions and spent a lot of time on site working with Amy Hollands of Bland Brown + Cole looking at each individual door set, going over the changes and alterations to ensure the right products were selected," said Luke.

A spokesperson from Westminster College said: "The service as provided by B J Waller as part of a contract during our £7 million refurbishment was satisfactory and delivered exactly what was needed."
