BJ Waller shows support for Jimmy's Night Shelter

Working on a multitude of projects from year to year, B J Waller has supported the refurbishment of Jimmy’s in Cambridge, which provides free of charge short-term emergency accommodation for those who would otherwise be homeless.

Opening as a basic shelter in November 1995, Jimmy’s fundamental aim has always been to make its guests comfortable and in a better position to take the first steps to break away from the cycle of homelessness.

Accommodating over 300 different guests every year and providing the equivalent of around 7,000 bed spaces, Jimmy’s were awarded £3 million capital funding from Communities & Local Government in 2008 for a major refurbishment to update and improve their facilities.

Wholly dependent on the generosity of its supporters, Jimmy’s received a further £500,000 from Cambridge City Council to help provide a temporary facility for guests to live in whilst the building works were in progress.

With Cambridge City Architects as the architects and Hutton Construction as the main contractors, B J Waller was privileged to be able to support such a worthy service offering its expert advice in ironmongery to ensure the correct specification for such a project. Making sure the ironmongery was extremely robust, as well as fitting a SimonsVoss Access Control, B J Waller provided Jimmy’s Cambridge with the highest quality product for a safe and secure environment for its guests.

The funding meant that in 2012, Jimmy’s moved from a basic night time service to a 24 hour operation offering full guest support; resettlement facilities; workshops and learning opportunities; sports and leisure activities; computers and IT information points; and move on housing.
